Build a website with ChatGPT or Claude

You describe your business in a chat. A real website exists at the end of it.

Not a mockup, not an export, not a zip file of HTML to figure out what to do with — an actual PageWebPro site, published, with the same editor you would use anyway. You can open any page it built and change a word by hand. It can open any page you built and change one too.

The part that matters more than the building: it is still there next month. When your prices change, when a phone number changes, when you want an FAQ on the pricing page, you ask for that in a chat and it happens. Most AI site tools generate something once and then leave you to maintain it. This one keeps working.

How it works#

Claude and ChatGPT can connect to outside software through an open standard called MCP. PageWebPro speaks it.

You paste one address into your AI app, sign in with your normal PageWebPro account, and approve it. That is the whole setup, and it takes about two minutes. From then on your assistant has a set of tools for building and editing your sites, and it acts strictly as you — it can reach exactly what your account can reach, and nothing else.

It works in Claude on the web, on the desktop app, and on your phone. Adding a product or approving a draft page from a phone, without opening an editor, is a genuinely different way to run a small site.

Building the site#

Give it the business, not a page list:

Build a site for a two-person landscape gardening business in Utrecht. Services, a gallery, an about page, a contact form. Warm and earthy, not corporate.

It sets up your brand colours and fonts, builds the shared navigation and footer, and writes the pages. Then you correct it, which is much faster than specifying everything in advance:

The tone is too formal. Rewrite the homepage like we're talking to a neighbour.

That last one is not a figure of speech. The assistant can render a page and look at it, so "the hero feels cramped on mobile" is a note it can act on instead of guess at.

Build pages as drafts, look at them, publish when you are happy.

Selling products#

Hand it the catalogue however you have it — a list, a spreadsheet pasted into the chat, a description:

Add these to the shop: ceramic mug €19.99, linen tea towel €12.50, gift set with both €28. Short friendly descriptions, all in stock.

It sets up the store, creates the products, and builds the shop pages. Later:

Every product description is too short. Rewrite them all to two sentences and don't touch the prices.

Taking bookings#

Booking setup is normally twenty forms. Here it is a paragraph:

We're a two-chair barbershop. Cut is 30 minutes at €28, cut and beard 45 minutes at €42, kids' cut 20 minutes at €18. Tuesday to Saturday, 9 to 6, closed 1 to 1:30 for lunch. Two barbers, both do everything.

Services, staff, opening hours and the booking calendar, from that. Then the running of it:

Block week 30, we're closed for holidays.

Move Thursday's 2pm to 4pm and tell me if it clashes.

Running events#

Keeping it current — the real win#

A site that never changes goes stale, and updating it is the chore that gets put off. This is what the connection is best at, because the assistant can search your whole site rather than relying on you remembering where things are:

Our phone number changed to 030 555 0142. Find every place the old one appears and update it.

Everywhere it says 2025, make it 2026.

Check every page has a meta description and write the missing ones.

Read the whole site and tell me where the tone is inconsistent.

None of those are "generate me a website" tasks. They are the ordinary upkeep that decides whether a site is any good a year later.

Where the line is#

Worth knowing before you start, because it is the first thing most people ask.

An assistant connected to your account cannot move money. It cannot take a payment, issue a refund, change payment settings, or see a customer's checkout link. It cannot read ticket codes. It cannot attach a domain to a site. Those are not permissions you forgot to grant — there are no tools for them.

It also only ever acts as you. Every request is checked against your own account permissions as it runs, so it reaches exactly the sites you can reach. You can connect it read-only to start with, every change it makes is versioned and attributable, and you can revoke its access in one click.
