AI agents (MCP)
Sell products with an AI agent
An agent can set up your store, build your catalogue and report on orders. It cannot touch money — that split is deliberate and is covered at the end.
Switching the store on
Ask the agent to turn the store on for the site. It will warn you that doing so creates starter pages and routes — a product listing, a cart, a checkout. That is expected; say yes.
If it reports that the store module is not enabled, that is a setting above your site, either for your account or platform-wide. Ask an administrator.
Adding products
Give it the catalogue in whatever form you have it:
Add these to the shop: Ceramic mug, €19.99. Linen tea towel, €12.50. Gift set with both, €28. Short friendly descriptions, all in stock.
Two things to know:
- Prices are exact. They are handled in the smallest currency unit — 1999 rather than 19.99. If you say "€19.99" the agent converts it. What it will never do is silently round: a price it cannot represent exactly is refused rather than approximated. Nothing loses a cent in translation.
- A product's type cannot be changed after it is created. Physical, digital and so on are fixed at creation. If it is wrong, the product gets deleted and remade — worth getting right in the brief.
Bulk work is where this pays off:
Every product description is too short. Rewrite them all to two sentences, keeping the same tone, and don't change any prices.
Reading orders
The agent can list and inspect orders, which makes reporting easy:
How many orders this week, and what's the total?
Which products haven't sold at all this month?
Read order 1043 and tell me what's in it and where it's going.
Order lists show customer names and status. Email addresses, delivery addresses and notes appear only when the agent looks up one specific order — so a summary question does not pull your customer list into a chat.
What stays in the owner interface
Everything involving money:
- Connecting a payment provider, and payment settings generally
- Refunds
- Recording a payment manually
- Uploading digital files that customers download
- Subscriptions
An agent can cancel an order only if it has not been paid for. Anything else is yours to do, where you can see what you are approving.
This is not a permission you can grant. There are no tools for these operations at all — see Is it safe?.
